    Thumbs way up — with a small reservation

    I enjoy the Century II very much. It has a comfortable size and weight, particularly for longer writing sessions, and I like its overall balance and feel in the hand. It strikes a nice middle ground between the slender original Century and the more substantial Townsend.

    My one disappointment involves the twist mechanism. On my older original Century, and on the current Townsend, extending the ballpoint produces what I think of as the classic “Cross bump”: the point extends slightly beyond its final writing position, then settles back into a distinct detent. It’s a small mechanical detail, but a satisfying one that I’ve long associated with Cross ballpoints.

    My Century II either lacks this action or exhibits it to such a slight degree that I can’t detect it. The point simply extends without the distinctive mechanical feedback I expect from a Cross.

    This isn’t enough to make me dislike the pen or stop using it. The Century II remains comfortable, attractive and enjoyable to write with, and I’m happy to keep it. But the apparent absence of such a characteristic Cross feature is still disappointing.

    NOTE: This is the only Century II that I own, so I can’t say for sure whether this is a manufacturing variation with my pen or whether all Century II units are like this.

    Excellent Gift!!!

    This was a gift for a friend, and she loved it, the color of the pen looks better in person than the images. I'm a big fan of Cross and the Century II is one of my favorite pens, you cannot go wrong with this pen at all.
